How We Started

H. H. Omps Trucking was founded in 1945 by Harry Herschel Omps out of Winchester, Virginia hauling coal and farm products.  In February 1971, H. H. Omps trucking became incorporated into H. H. Omps, Inc. and on June 6, 1971 the founding father, Harry Herschel Omps passed away and sons Keven and John took over the business. At that time, the business hauled apples, lime, and limestone products in dump trailers and pneumatic tankers.

In the early 1990’s plastic resin hauling for local industries was added.  As the business continued to expand, H. H. Omps, Inc. purchased its first rail yard located on Welltown Road.  This rail yard is serviced by Winchester Western/NS railroad and holds up to 39 rail cars.  This location handles all phases of the operation which include rail car unloading, rail car switching, bulk trucking and export packaging.  On this same property, the company built its first warehouse for packing and storing bulk resins.

As the business continued to expand in 2015, a second rail yard was built at the home base off of Martinsburg Pike and holds 80 rail cars.  This siding is serviced by CSX Railroad.  At this location the company packages, stores, and ships bulk resins delivered to the location by rail car or truck load.

The business also continues to haul lime and limestone products as well as bulk cement products.  The company is now headed up and is operated by the third and fourth generations and as always, looking for ways to expand the business.
